Awarded for Academic Excellence, Community/Campus Involvement, and Strength in Leadership. Alexandra Berti is Honorable Mention for this award.

The Outstanding First Year Student Award, sponsored by the First Year Experience Committee, was designed to acknowledge a first year student who exhibits: Academic Excellence, Community/Campus Involvement, and Strength in Leadership.

Noor Meer is a biology major in the Levermore Global Scholars Program, and is one of two freshman representatives on the LGS Student Leadership Council. She is involved in many campus activities such as FCAP (Freshmen Community Action Program), where she gave back to the community. The volunteer training program had Noor performing community service in the Hempstead community, in homeless shelters, and in a veteran’s hospital.

Noor is a member of Chemistry Club, Adelphi’s South Asian Student Association (SASA), and Adelphi’s Muslim Student Association (MSA), where she is on the e-board as the Public Relations Head. As a writer for The Odyssey at Adelphi, she has been invited to the UN Commission on the Status of Women by MALA (Muslim American Leadership Alliance). Even with most of her time dedicated to campus and community involvement and leadership roles, Noor strives to maintain academic excellence.

The First Year Experience Committee would also like to acknowledge Alexandra Berti as Honorable Mention for this award. Thank you to all of the students who participated in this award process, and to those that submitted nominations.
